Important info for parents:
There is a new series that premiered March 31 on Netflix called “13 Reasons Why”, which is based on the book written by Jay Asher in 2007. The fictional story follows the life of a teenage girl who left behind 13 mysterious audio recordings after killing herself. The recordings are addressed to people she feels played a role in her decision to end her life.
While the plot can lead to insightful discussions at home and at school, it could also lead to feelings that can be concerning. Be aware if your child begins spending more time alone, is becoming more secretive or if they have a history of non-suicidal self-injury such as cutting.
