The mission of the Pine Plains Central School District library media program is to ensure that students and staff are effective users of ideas and information. It is the goal of the library media program to ensure that our community of learners are information literate.

Pine Plains Central School District Information Literacy Program Standards are those advocated by the American Library Association and the Association of School Libraries. The librarians of the district strive to emphasize these standards in all their lessons.

We believe that a person who is information literate:

*Accesses information efficiently and effectively

*Evaluates information critically and competently

*Uses information accurately and creatively

*Pursures information for personal interests

*Appreciates literature and other creative expressions of information

*Strives for excellence in information seeking and knowledge generation

*Recognizes the importance of information to a democratic society

*Practices ethical behavior in regard to information and information technology

*Participates effectively in groups to pursue and generate information
