At around 11 a.m, on June 9, 2022, the Dutchess BOCES Salt Point campus was placed on lockout to ensure the safety of students and staff after staff received a report there were weapons on campus. All students and staff are safe. The building remained on lockout through dismissal time out of an abundance of caution.
Dutchess BOCES was alerted to a report that indicated there were weapons on the campus. Law enforcement was notified immediately and emergency responders attended to the situation promptly.
Law enforcement located a student in the school who was in possession of what appeared to be an airsoft gun contained in a backpack. The student was isolated without incident. Further information will be provided as it becomes available. Law enforcement and BOCES administrators continue to investigate the incident.
“I think the school handled the situation well,” said Hyde Park Police Chief Robert Benson. “It was the best possible outcome.”
District Superintendent Jason Schetelick said BOCES is cooperating fully with the investigation. ““We are thankful that our procedures kept everyone safe,” he said. “We will continue to carefully review all aspects of this incident as we move forward.”
If parents or students need assistance during this time, please contact the school principal. “We understand that some students may need some additional support at this time and we will have counselors available to help,” said Schetelick. “We can’t thank our students and staff enough for their patience and cooperation.”
